Get together at the “Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg
Wednesday, 16th September 2020

3000 years of maritime history and modern research. The International Maritime Museum is housed in the heritage listed building, Kaispeicher B. Three thousand years’ worth of maritime history are displayed on nine ‘decks’ with precious exhibits, model ships and paintings. There is an entire deck dedicated to marine research. This historic shipping area is the place for our opening get together. The grandiose buffet designed by the famous restaurant “Catch of the day” invites for nice talks in a relaxed atmosphere.

BBQ at the former Customs office “Hauptzollamt Hafen Hamburg”
Thursday, 17th September 2020

The former customs office “Hauptzollamt Hafen Hamburg” with generous outside surface, lies directly at the customs channel. This imposing brick building once controlled tea, berries, coffee and tobacco from all over the world. The Great Hall and the directly connected outer surface are our location for our second evening event. The planned BBQ invites to active information exchange and networking.

Gala-Dinner at Hamburg’s Panoramadeck

Our final highlight of the 40. WISTA International AGM & Conference will take place on the 23rd floor of the EMPORIO skyscraper in the heart of Hamburg. The “Panoramadeck” is not only the highest event location of the city but also offers you a 360 ° view over Hamburg, which will take your breath away. The perfect place for a great party night including a lot of fun and dancing – Enjoy the last evening with your WISTA sisters.

Excursions on Friday, 18th September 2020

Excursion 1 – Discover the Elbphilharmonie concert hall

Starting point of this tour is the metro station “Baumwall”. After a short 10 minutes’ walk guided by our Hamburg WISTA sisters, we will arrive at the Elbphilharmonie. The guided tours of the Elbphilharmonie building take you through the old Kaispeicher warehouse, the Plaza, the foyer areas and the heart of the Elbphilharmonie, the Grand Hall. The duration of the guided tour is approx. 75 minutes.

Excursion 2 – “Internationales Maritimes Museum”

Starting point of this tour is the metro station “Meßberg”. After a short 15 minutes’ walk guided by our Hamburg WISTA sisters, we will arrive at the the “Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg”. 3000 years of maritime history and modern research. The International Maritime Museum is housed in the heritage listed building, Kaispeicher B. Our guided tour “The best piece – Highlights of the collection” lasts approx. 90 minutes.

Excursion 3 – Grand Harbour Boat Trip

Starting point of this tour is the metro station „Baumwall“. After a short 10 minutes’ walk guided by our Hamburg WISTA sisters, we will arrive at the “Brücke 1“. A harbor cruise in Hamburg promises all sorts of sailor’s yarn: there is plenty to do on the tour to the world’s most modern container terminal in Altenwerder. The tour leads past ocean liners and through locks and canals of the historic warehouse district. The duration of the guided tour is approx. 75 minutes.

Excursion 4 – CAP SAN DIEGO

Starting point of this tour is the metro station „Baumwall“. After a short 10 minutes’ walk guided by our Hamburg WISTA sisters, we will arrive at the “Überseebrücke“. The CAP SAN DIEGO is the last surviving ship in a series of six fast general cargo freighters which were built in 1961/62 for the shipping company Hamburg Süd and preferably drove to South America until the end of 1981. Since 1988, the CAP SAN DIEGO has been a museum ship and, since 2003, a maritime monument, which now has its berth at the “Überseebrücke” in Hamburg. The duration of the guided tour is approx. 90 minutes.

Excursion 5 – Coffee Museum Burg

Starting point of this tour is the metro station “Meßberg”. After a short 15 minutes’ walk guided by our Hamburg WISTA sisters, we will arrive at the the “Coffee Museum Burg”. In the only vaulted cellar of the “Speicherstadt”, hundreds of objects from the Burg Collection are used to create a world in which you can learn all about the prima donna of useful plants. Coffee is the most popular drink of the Germans and many other nations. Take a journey from cultivation all over the world via the Hanseatic trading office to the shop from grandma’s times. Discover different ways of preparation and enjoy with us good, traditional roasted coffee. The duration of the guided tour is approx. 90 minutes.
